Last week I had the honour of volunteering for a tribute dinner to Wayson Choy. The evening was lovely, many childhood friends of Wayson aka “Sonny” spoke, as did individuals from the literary community. The tribute was also a fundraiser for Project Bookmark Canada, which has officially come to Western Canada with the first Bookmark in Vancouver.

The dinner was Sunday evening (October 14) and on the Monday morning, we gathered in Chinatown on the corner of Gore and Pender to unveil the first Bookmark in Western Canada, as well as the first dual-language bookmark. Project Bookmark installs plaques “where the real and imagined landscapes meet […] in the exact physical locations where literary scenes are set.”
