- Well-known author Ann Pachett has decided to open a bookstore, and offered to sign copies of her book purchased through the new website. Interesting case study or tidbit.
- Although I quit Twitter, this is an interesting concept: BookRx, an online experiment which analyses your tweets, hashtags, and keywords to recommend books for you.
- Reading the Tools of Change newsletter, they mentioned Book Book Goose. It’s less ‘recommendation’ and more ‘random’, but it’s fun to see what comes up.
- I was in Toronto in January and we had an evening/private event at the Toronto Reference Library. They have a Sherlock Holmes exhibit on right now. But unfortunately for me, the exhibit was closed because we were there after-hours. But I peered through the glass and got sad I couldn’t see it all.
- Another Sad that I didn’t have time to visit the Bibliomat Book Vending Machine while I was in Toronto. The machine is installed at an antiquarian bookstore, The Monkey’s Paw, and it dispenses random books for $2.
- House of Anansi launched a contest (which closed submissions a few weeks ago) for short stories based on now-defunct band, Broken Social Scene. They are preparing a book for the 10th anniversary of Broken Social Scene’s label and their breakout album.
